Joan Allen and I, along with several dedicated Master Gardeners and Master Gardener interns, will have some live (and dead) insects on display for the first annual Bug Week at UConn. We also hope to get out and do a bug search if the weather allows. Our program is just one of many that will take place on and around campus from July 20- July 25. Check out the website: bugs.uconn.edu for events and where and when they will be held.

Depending upon what we can find beforehand, we will have caterpillars, beetles and other insects that are commonly found at this time of year. The focus is on Connecticut insects, with perhaps a mantid or two that are not native here.

As of right now, we have 4 walking sticks and a multitude of caterpillars that hopefully will not pupate before the event! Here are some of the insects that we will have.
